The Very Dead of Night (2021) is a surreal experimental film that follows a young girl who falls asleep and loses herself in a deep dream. In her dream she encounters The Shadow Man, who tricks her into an unhappy environment, which eventually leads her to poison him. Feeling immediate regret at her decision,she becomes lost in a mixture of her realisation, sadness, rejoice and depression in The Shadow Man’s death. This leads her to question her deeper confused feelings and emotions of how to deal with the inner demon that still exists within her. The film elevates these feelings through its use of visual storytelling, abstract sounds and cinematography. This short film was inspired by the work of Maya Deren and David Lynch.
